If you're like me and have been watching more TV than you care to admit during the pandemic, here are a few gems I discovered quite by accident and are well worth watching:

1. My Octopus Teacher is the title and the explanation. A BBC documentary about a burnt out nature photographer who returns to the seaside where he grew up and renews himself while free diving to photograph an octopus. Words are inadequate to describe this beautiful film, so see it for yourself.

2. Ghost of the Mountains is a behind the scenes movie about an international crew of videographers who travel across China to the Himalaya's to photograph Snow leopards. It follows the film crew over several months as they try to find and photograph Snow leopards while operating at 16,000 feet. The photography is incredible and the narration keeps you involved with the team's successes and failures. Truly captivating.

3. Night on Earth is another documentary, this time about photographing the nighttime activity of a variety of wildlife using both IR technology and low light or moonlight cameras to record them in color. The photography is again extraordinary. The narrative is a bit hyped up as in a lot of nature films, but still tolerable.

Night On Earth

All of these are time well spent and well above average nature documentaries.
